Timeline - Is it really time?

Facebook announced recently that its latest feature (or hype?), Timeline, will become mandatory in a couple of weeks. And they expect users to clean up their mesh from the profile (for others to not know what they have been up to) in a week’s time. There has been mixed reactions from FB users since the day Timeline was launched in mid December last year. Some adopted it instantly while others, who didn’t find it interesting, didn’t. We will need to wait and watch to know what it turns out to be – a hit of a flop. But for now we, at Danfe Labs, don’t really appreciate the move.

Utter mesh

We think that Timeline is a total disaster. All the items in the wall look extremely cluttered and our experts here say that it’s not really pleasing to the eyes. It may just be because of inertia but we can’t deny the fact that the feature is a bit meshed up look-wise.

Information overload?

The main advantage of timeline is it arranges everything in chronological order hence making it easier to track updates. However, our experts do not endorse it. What they have to say is – “How many people in the world would really want to track updates of a friend (or family) based on timeline. We can only think of two cases – either the person (maybe a spouse) wants to keep an eye on the other person or the person is fanatically in love with the other person and wants to know everything possible. Regarding using timeline to track one’s own updates - Come on! I know when I graduated, or joined my current employer, or fell in love for that matter. I don’t need FB to remind me of them.” Anyways, let’s see how well it is received by the mass. We really hope, for FB, that we are proven wrong.
